Strong support from the province of Styria for EuroSkills 2021

The province of Styria is one of the most important supporters of the European Skills Championships EuroSkills 2021: In line with one of the province’s key themes, it is supporting the vocational orientation project for young people, “Try a Skill”.

The province of Styria is one of the “EuroSkills supporters from the very beginning” and also focuses on promoting career orientation for young people with its own initiatives such as “Take Tech”. With “Take Tech”, the Province of Styria and thus also the Styrian Economic Development Agency SFG have created a career experience program that revolves primarily around the so-called “MINT professions” and is intended to encourage young people to take a greater interest in technical professions. Take Tech” therefore goes to the place where technical professions can best be experienced: In the Styrian companies themselves. There, the companies assist the young people with questions, give them an overview of the respective opportunities in the company and, of course, the various professions can also be experienced in practice on site. In this way, the province of Styria and the SFG want to inspire young people, and especially girls, to pursue vocational training in the technical field. The goal of getting young people in general interested in vocational training is thus shared by EuroSkills 2021 and the Province of Styria, and that is why the Province is primarily supporting the vocational orientation program as part of EuroSkills 2021. “EuroSkills makes the achievements of apprentices and young skilled workers visible to the public and will further raise the status of apprenticeships,” Styrian Provincial Minister for Economics Barbara Eibinger-Miedl is convinced.

Hermann Schützenhöfer, Governor of the Province of Styria, says in support of the European Skills Championships: “The European Skills Championships offer young people a stage for the outstanding skills in their professions. EuroSkills also sends a strong signal about the importance of apprenticeships. This is particularly important in times of crisis, because we can only succeed in a comeback of the economy together and with well-trained skilled workers!

I am very proud that this year the “EuroSkills” will take place in Styria. After the European Skills Championships in 2020 had to be postponed due to the pandemic, this year a sign will be set that events of international dimensions are possible in Styria even under difficult conditions thanks to a wealth of ideas and innovative spirit.”

This would be unthinkable without the organizing team around President Josef Herk, who worked intensively with the umbrella organization of World Skills Europe and the partners on solutions for a safe implementation of EuroSkills. For this commitment to the image of the apprenticeship professions in general and the event in particular, great thanks are due to all those involved.

I wish all participants an exciting time in Styria and look forward to exciting competitions. A Styrian “Glück auf!”

At this point, once again a heartfelt “thank you” to the Province of Styria and the SFG for their valuable support. We are Skills!
