Volunteering with heart for the next generation of skilled workers
Our Workshop Managers are a “sworn” community consisting of a wide variety of people, but they all have one thing in common: they are burning for their own profession, the EuroSkills 2021 project and thus also for international young skilled workers. For many of our 74 workshop managers, supporting the young professionals and exchanging vocational knowledge is the reason why they volunteer for the first Austrian European Vocational Championships. Some of our volunteers have already been on board since 2017 and regularly prepare for the European Skills Championship together with our team. But there are also some “newcomers” who have only joined us this year or last year. There is coordination between our workshop managers and the organising team, which mostly takes place in small groups depending on the skills, and in June things will really “heat up”: from mid-June, the final coordination talks for September 2021 will take place.
When our workshop managers meet with the EuroSkills organisation team, heads are usually “spinning, because one of the main tasks of the Workshop Managers is to prepare the competition areas – everything from the smallest screw to the workbenches has to be thought of and it has to be ensured that the required materials are in the right place at the right time. The Workshop Managers are on site for a total of 12 days: they prepare the competition bunks accordingly, are the “linchpin” for organisational matters, also keep an eye on the competition areas during the competition and ensure smooth dismantling at the end.
For this commitment, each and every one of our workshop managers deserves a big “thank you” from the bottom of our hearts. Without you it would not be possible to organise an event like EuroSkills 2021. We are Skills!
