What can you expect as a Volunteer for EuroSkills 2021?
You consider applying for volunteering at EuroSkills 2021, but you are not a hundred percent sure yet? Perhaps our blog post convinces you of what you can expect as a Volunteer at the European Championship of Young Professionals and what you can especially look forward to.
EuroSkills 2021 is a unique event: for the first time in Austria, 450 young professionals from 31 European countries are competing for a medal in 45 professions. Our Volunteers are also largely responsible for making this event an unforgettable experience for everyone. This is why we need organisational talents, genius’ at logistics, people who go bananas for events and many more talented people in any other department who are willing to help.
Together we want to make EuroSkills 2021 a positive, enriching event, which does not only let Graz and Austria feel the “Skills-Spirit”, but also spreads it to other countries. This spirit is one of the special features of the event: once you’ve experienced it live, you won’t forget it easily, not even as a Volunteer.
This feeling also becomes particularly evident in the last few nerve-racking seconds of a competition: Until the final buzzer has sounded and tasks are being finalized in many places, and when it is finally over and the competition has ended, it is in that moment that Competitors, Experts, Team Leaders and spectators often fall into each other’s arms, relieved. A “goosebumps moment” that makes EuroSkills 2021 a special experience for lifetime.
Sharing the same pride and passion for something can be equally unifying: not only the Competitors are incredibly enthusiastic, but also those involved behind the scenes are passionately committed to EuroSkills 2021 and this is what connects them, regardless of whether they are Volunteers or Competitors at the event.
What you can look forward to is being heavily involved in the operational team of EuroSkills 2021, which is responsible for organising a successful event behind the scenes. Without your help as a Volunteer, we would not be able to implement many things, nor would we be able to look after our guests as visitors in a service-oriented and helpful way. A sincere smile as a form of thank you often compensates for the effort.
Another advantage you can benefit from as Volunteer is the close contact to the international “Skills-Community”: you will quickly notice the friendly and family-like atmosphere. You have the chance to meet a lot of new people and you will maybe make new friends for life one way or another.
In addition, you may already find your next opportunity to become a Volunteer. WorldSkills and EuroSkills Competitions are held regularly and Volunteers who are willing to support the event are always needed. Take the chance in participating at EuroSkills 2021 and ‒ who knows ‒ maybe you will also be a Volunteer at WorldSkills 2022 in Shanghai or at EuroSkills 2023 in St. Petersburg.
In addition to these great insights and experiences at the event, you will get “goodies” such as work clothes, catering during your shifts as well as a ticket for public transport in order to get to your workplace comfortably. There is another special benefit for students: your volunteer experience can also be counted as a compulsory internship. For more information talk to your assigned supervisor for internships.
